USE/ABUSE EVERYONE/EVERYTHING - screening from a recent 4k restoration by the Museum of Modern Art.
A supposedly straight stud is given a guided tour through the seamy S&M underbelly of Hollywood's glitzy socialite scene by his trans paramour. Fred Halsted's groundbreaking adult feature was the first of its kind shot on 35mm. Halsted is also perhaps one of the most recognisable early names working in the genre; described by Arthur D. Murphy as "the Ken Russell of S&M homoerotica" in his Variety review of the film. A failed attempt at mainstream crossover success, the film is a fascinating, titillating and all-round iconic work of queer art, recognised by the Museum of Modern Art for its boundary-pushing contribution to society and the arts. Strictly for adults only and unlikely to screen again in Australia any time soon, do not miss your chance to see this underground masterpiece on the big screen.
"The most diverse gay film of its era, throwing twinks, studs, leathermen, drag queens, faeries, and both cis and trans women of various ethnicities into the mix to create a microcosm of Los Angeles's gay and arts scenes of the time."
